Plywood

What is a Plywood?

The basics you need to know about Plywood is that it's a sheet material which is brought to life by combining layers of wood veneer, which are glued together. Each adjoining layer is rotated up to 90 degrees in a process we call cross-graining. Why is this done? Well, the major reason is that it gives the product super strength.

Thanks to cross-graining Plywood is able to resist splitting when nailed at the edges, minimise expansion and shrinkage and bump up its stability. Similarly, when cross-graining an odd number of layers will be used. This provides us with a balanced sheet that won't easily warp.

Using BWP glue for the plywood ensures that the panel can be exposed to humidity or moisture for a long time without delamination. Plywood is quite durable as it is made of three or more thin sheets of wood called veneers that are glued together. The glues used in BWP plywood are melamine glue and phenolic glue.

BWP plywood can be used to build almost any furniture you can imagine, including those that may get exposed to water. Sai Plywood deals with Century, Austin and many other brands of BWP 710 Standard Ply. The important features of the plywood can be summed up as follows.

  • BWP plywood is specially treated so that it could withstand a high- moisture environment.
  • Through specific stress-relieving treatment, the plywood gets its anti-warp properties, which makes it dimensionally stable in both dry and wet conditions throughout its life.
  • It is chemically treated with selected preservatives to seal it off from termites and pests.
  • Its high resistance to boiling water, moisture, dry heat and rough

Blockboard is a type of plywood that is engineered in a special way. It is pressured in such a way that the softwood strips are found between two layers of the wood veneers in the core of the sheet. This contributes to the dimensional stability of the board. The presence of softwood strips ensures that the board is able to hold nails and screws better than the other engineered boards.
